Peter Tersigni, who had known Thomas Jacob Sanford since preschool, said his best friend's four-year term in the military, including time in Iraq, drastically changed his demeanor, according to The New York Times. Tersigni said living in Utah, heavy use of methamphetamine and painfully losing a relationship with a woman who was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints changed Sanford more.
