CLEVELAND, Ohio – Thousands of delinquent taxpayers in Cuyahoga County will soon have their unpaid bills sold to a private collector in a move that county leaders say will help schools and local services while still giving property owners time and options to settle their debts before potential foreclosure proceedings.

In a presentation to County Council’s Community Development Committee on Monday, Treasurer Brad Cromes said the county is seeking to sell up to $40 million worth of tax lien certificates to NAR Solutions. The company would then work with property owners to settle their delinquent taxes.

The liens would impact about 3,069 parcels with a combined $33 million in unpaid taxes, Cromes said. Notices are expected to go out to impacted homeowners starting Oct. 10, giving residents
