The BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) says thousands of striking members will march through downtown Vancouver on Wednesday, joined by other unions in what it calls a “major show of solidarity and strength.”

The rally comes a day after talks between the union and the B.C. government collapsed for the second time in months.

The march will begin at 12 p.m. at the Vancouver Art Gallery and head to Jack Poole Plaza, where union leaders, including BCGEU president Paul Finch, will address the crowd. Organizers say the event will feature music, colourful signs and banners and workers from across the Lower Mainland.

The BCGEU, which represents more than 34,000 public service workers, has been ramping up strike action over the past four weeks.

Up to 15,000 workers have taken part in picketing
