TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A norovirus outbreak was reported on a cruise ship that is currently headed to Florida.

Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas departed San Diego on Sept. 19 and stopped in several South America ports, according to Cruise Mapper. It is scheduled to dock in Miami on Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 71 of 1,874 (3.79%) passengers have fallen ill with norovirus. One of 883 (0.11%) crew members has been reported sick.

Those affected by the illness are experiencing vomiting and diarrhea, according to the CDC.

In response to the outbreak, Royal Caribbean told the CDC it is upping its cleaning and disinfection protocols. Sick passengers and crew members are being isolated.
