WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert talks to the media before the 2025 WNBA Draft at The Shed at Hudson Yards, April 14, 2025 in New York.

WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert has officially responded to Minnesota Lynx superstar forward Napheesa Collier's explosive Tuesday remarks about the league's leadership.

During her exit interview, Collier called out Engelbert and the WNBA for "negligence" in running the league and made a particularly troubling claim over alleged comments Engelbert made about Indiana Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark.

How did Caitlin Clark respond to alleged WNBA commissioner dig?

Collier's comments have gained support from former and current WNBA players and hit particularly hard as the WNBA players association attempts to negotiate a new CBA with the league.

While Engelbert didn't directly speak to any of Collier's allegations, she put out a vague statement via the league.

"I have the utmost respect for Napheesa Collier and for all the players in the WNBA," Engelbert said in her statement. "Together we have all worked tirelessly to transform this league. My focus remains on ensuring a bright future for the players and the WNBA, including collaborating on how we continue to elevate the game. I am disheartened by how Napheesa characterized our conversations and league leadership, but even when our perspectives differ, my commitment to the players and to this work will not waver."

How Collier's comments impact the WNBA leadership and the contentious ongoing CBA negotiations will be particularly fascinating, as will Engelbert's continued responses to this historic moment in league history.
