SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- October is National Fire Prevention Month, and The Burn Institute is sharing tips to keep the community safe.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) declared the second week of October as "Fire Prevention Week" in 1922, commemorating the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The Burn Institute recognizes both Fire Prevention Week and Month by educating the community and raising awareness about fire and burn safety.
