SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- One person was injured in a shooting near several Chollas View schools Tuesday afternoon, prompting police to place them on lockdown.

Students at four schools in the Chollas View neighborhood of San Diego were placed under lockdown just after noon on Tuesday after a shooting in the 1000 block of 47th Street sent one person to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, San Diego Police report.

Chollas Mead Elementary, Gompers Preparatory Academy, Millennial Tech Middle School and Horton Elementary were placed on lockdown, according to the police department. SkyFOX/KUSI in the Sky was overhead the scene and a heavy police presence blocking the road could still be seen in the area as of 2 p.m.
