RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Approximately 200 state employees will be furloughed from their jobs if the pending government shutdown goes into effect Wednesday.
The N.C. Department of Human Resources reported the looming decision, stating that it’s “a decision of last resort.” The furloughs also would begin Wednesday, Oct. 1.
“Given other federal cuts and a more constrained state fiscal environment, this shutdown has left the state with no other viable path forward,” state officials said.
