AOL is ditching dial-up internet services beginning Tuesday, one of the last remnants of the early days of the internet.

The service has been offered for decades, featuring a familiar (and sometimes annoying) chirp and beeping tone as the user logged in.

Dial-up connected computers to the internet through a modem and telephone line.

Around 163,000 households still used dial-up according to the 2023 census.
