Larimer County is updating its processes for assigning road names, the first time in nearly 20 years that it has done so, in order to improve the safety of community members by ensuring first responders can receive clear and accurate directions during an emergency.
The new Road Naming and Site Addressing System was devised in collaboration with first responders, including local emergency medical service providers, law enforcement, fire agencies and the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA), the local 9-1-1 operator.
The new plan only affects county roads outside of municipalities, largely in rural areas, and according to Larimer County Director of Innovations and Insights Gregg Turnbull, will not imminently affect any existing road names or addresses.
