NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — New Yorkers living in public housing just got a major boost.
Mayor Eric Adams announced the city’s Big Apple Connect program is being extended for three more years, keeping free high-speed internet and basic cable flowing to more than 330,000 residents across 220 NYCHA sites.
At Brownsville’s Langston Hughes Houses, single mom Janelle Rojas says the program is life-changing. She once paid nearly $200 a month for internet and cable.
Now that money goes toward paying down credit cards.
NYC’s Chief Technology Officer, Matt Fraser, surprised her at her door with the good news. Neighbors like Ernestine Pool said that with rent and groceries rising, the savings on cable and WiFi help with bills.
The city isn’t stopping there, investing $1.2 million in digital-literac
