BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha man has changed his plea in connection to an animal abuse case from 2024 .
21-year-old Eduardo Acevedo-Jara pleaded “no contest” to a reduced charge of attempted abandoning/cruelly neglecting an animal resulting in death.
The incident took place at 40th and Gertrude Terrace last in July of 2024, where Acevedo-Jara told police he saw the dog smiling at him and jumping around sporadically after Acevedo-Jara had an episode of sleep paralysis.
Acevedo-Jara then began to beat the dog with a metal bar.
Acevedo-Jara’s sister and father were able to get the bar away from him and contact the authorities. The dog did not survive.
