Northwest Allen County Schools now faces a grassroots campaign against its upcoming operating referendum that, if approved, would allow the district to annually collect up to $12 million in additional property taxes for eight years.
Americans for Prosperity-Indiana and a coalition of community members announced the volunteer-driven effort in a news release today.
They asserted the Nov. 4 ballot measure – which the district is seeking to support various staffing initiatives – would raise property taxes on families who are already struggling financially.
The grassroots campaign wants every household to understand the referendum's long-term consequences and why sustainable reforms are needed that prioritize students and teachers without adding to the tax burden, the release said.
