ATLANTIC CITY — City beaches will be closed until further notice as Hurricanes Imelda and Humberto are causing extremely dangerous surf conditions and rip currents, officials said Tuesday.

“Please stay out of the water,” Atlantic City Beach Patrol Chief Steve Downey said in a statement. “It is huge surf down here, some of the biggest I’ve ever seen. We are asking people to avoid the dangerous surf and stay safely out of the water until further notice.”

All guarded beaches are shut down for the season and all lifeguards are off duty, the city said.
