MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The federal government is expected to shut down at midnight if Congress is unable to agree on a funding bill.

A shutdown could have significant impacts on our tribal nations, who find themselves once again in preparation mode.

MHA Nation Chairman Mark Fox said this is not the first time a shutdown has been threatened or has happened during his time.

He said in the past, they’ve had issues with receiving budgets from the government in a timely manner.

Fox shared that it would put a burden on the tribe as it would need to float certain programs and keep them funded on its own if a shutdown goes into effect.

He added that the tribe already supplements its healthcare and law enforcement budgets.
