DOWNTOWN — THE ANNUAL DAFFODIL PLANTING in Cadman Plaza Park in Downtown Brooklyn, part of the Daffodil Project, takes place Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to join the Cadman Park Conservancy and The Service Collective at Juneteenth Grove to plant bulbs that will bloom in the spring. The Daffodil Project, a program of New Yorkers for Parks, began in 2002 as a living memorial to the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Since then, over nine million daffodil bulbs have been distributed for free, planted by thousands of volunteers in the fall.
The event has expanded to memorialize the victims of both 9/11 and COVID-19, with the goals of promoting parks equity, civic engagement and advocating for a stronger parks budget.
