SPOKANE, Wash. - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) affirmed that Spokane International Airport (GEG) will remain open and operational in the event of a government shutdown.

If Congress doesn't authorize a spending bill on Tuesday night, a shutdown will be triggered. This would prompt the furloughing of non-essential federal workers and temporarily close some federal operations.

" Air Traffic Controllers, TSA Agents, and other airport personnel are deemed to be essential workers," Public Information Officer for the FAA Northwest Mountain Region Kiiva Williams wrote in a press release. " We appreciate our federal partners’ commitment and dedication to the safety of the traveling public ."
