MILLINOCKET — Despite early concerns about drought, foliage season is in full swing in central Maine, promising a vibrant and colorful fall.
“The reds are brilliant, and the oranges are starting to be bright,” said Gail Fanjoy, president of the Katahdin Chamber of Commerce.
“It did really pop. It seemed like overnight,” Fanjoy added.
Earlier fears that dry summer conditions would dim the leaves’ vibrancy have so far proven unfounded.
“They’re always these, you know, wise tales, maybe about how the foliage is not going to be as bright because it was so dry and the trees are so thirsty. But I personally haven’t seen any evidence of that,” she said.
Fanjoy said the foliage is more than just scenic beauty; it’s a major draw for visitors and organizations alike.
