RAWLINS -- An emergency dispatcher in Carbon County sustained numerous critical injuries due to an accident.

Lucero Peña was in a head-on collision on Friday, Sept. 19, in south-central Wyoming.

According to Carbon County Sheriff Alex Bakken, Peña was life-flighted to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She remains in critical condition.

Peña has been a dispatcher with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office for over a year but has over six years of additional dispatch experience with several different agencies in Wyoming and New Mexico. Bakken said she is also a fully-sworn reserve deputy with the sheriff’s office and assists their deputies by covering shifts on a regular basis.

The sheriff’s office decided to set up a GoFundMe page on Facebook to help with medical expenses.
