DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Families in the Quad Cities are talking more about firearm safety after a teen in East Moline was killed when the gun he was handling discharged.

While the investigation continues, local experts say the focus now should be on prevention at home. National research shows nearly every day in the U.S., a child accidentally fires a gun. Many of these tragedies involve kids under six.
Jeanelle Westrom, owner of Davenport Guns & Shooting Club, says simple steps can protect families.
“Firearm locks, safes, even simple cable locks, these are low-cost ways to prevent a tragedy,” Westrom said.
She also stresses that storage is only part of the solution.
