What happened to Bucky Irving?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' first official injury report of the week doesn't come out until Wednesday, and it may take until then to get any update on the status of the team's starting running back.
Irving sustained an injury during the Buccaneers' Sunday game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. The second-year running back left the field in the final seconds of the first half after taking a big hit from linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
Irving returned to the field to start the second half and played out the rest of the game. So when Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles shared afterwards that he was concerned about Irving's injury, it was a bit of a shock.
Bowles said Monday that multiple Buccaneers players were undergoing MRIs after the loss to the Eagles.
When asked if Irving was one of the players with an injury that concerned him, Bowles said, "Yeah, he's one of them," according to Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud.

Irving only missed a few plays in the middle of Sunday's game against the Eagles, but he suffered an injury that was a cause for Bowles' concern. The nature of the running back's injury and his Week 5 status are both still unclear as of Tuesday evening.
Stroud, the Tampa Bay Times' Buccaneers beat reporter, shared on social media that he's still awaiting any news regarding Irving.
"Hoping (for an update) later today but would bet he's going to miss a game or two. We'll see," Stroud wrote Tuesday morning.
Neither he nor the Buccaneers have provided any meaningful update since.
Buccaneers RB depth chart
- Bucky Irving
- Rachaad White
- Sean Tucker
- Josh Williams
Irving is the standout in this group and the clear starter after he broke out as a rookie last season. The second-year back recorded 1,122 yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2024. He also caught 47 of his 52 targets for 392 receiving yards.
White is in the final year of his four-year rookie deal after the Buccaneers drafted him in the third round in 2022. Tucker (2023) and Williams (2025) both joined the Buccaneers as undrafted free agents in recent years.
