AKWESASNE — Hundreds of people wearing orange shirts descended on Generations Park in the southern district of Akwesasne on Tuesday to mark the fifth National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Article content

Also commonly known as Orange Shirt Day , Sept. 30 was designated in Canada to observe the impacts of colonization and cultural genocide on Indigenous communities, particularly the impact of the residential school system. It was first observed in British Columbia in 2013 and became federally recognized in 2021 . Article content
