LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - For the 11th-ranked Red Raiders, the defense has been a strong fixture this season. The unit ranks 6th nationally in yards allowed per play (3.75), 12th in yards allowed per game (238.8). Defensive lineman Skyler Gill-Howard, cornerback Brice Pollack, and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez have already earned “Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week” honors. During last week’s bye, Gill-Howard said the defensive unit stayed together as a team-even without a game to prepare for.

“When we had our couple of days off, Bryce Ramirez sent a text to everybody just saying “the standard is the standard”, and we know what we have to do to be great,” he said. “So don’t waste the time that we have off, and I think that was really important.”
