A busy Merseyside road is shut tonight (Tuesday, September 30) due to a gas leak.
Police and firefighters are on the scene on the A57 Warrington Road in Prescot, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Upon arrival, Cadent Gas verified the leak and began emergency works to isolate the affected gas main.
A Cadent dig team is currently on-site working to contain the issue.

A number of flats and shops have been evacuated as a precaution as a result of the ongoing incident.
No injuries are currently reported according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
