MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mulan, an Asian restaurant that has occupied a corner in Cooper-Young for more than a decade, is closing permanently after a fire Monday, according to a note on the door.

"We regret to inform you that due to the fire damage sustained on 9/29, we have made the difficult decision to close this location," owner Matt Kan wrote in the note.

He invited customers to visit the restaurant's East Memphis location on Spottswood.

Police said fire investigators determined that Monday's fire started in the kitchen from cooking, and it was ruled an accident. One person sustained second-degree burns to the right arm and face.

They said the building sustained an estimated $75,000 in damage, and contents were valued at $50,000.
