MAINE (WABI) - A new National Park Service report shows visitors to Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument contributed millions of dollars to the local economy in 2024.
According to the report, more than 35,000 people visited Katahdin Woods and Waters last year.
The NPS says visitors spent $2.7 million in local communities near the park with a total benefit to the region of almost 3.5 million dollars.
Park Superintendent Neal Labrie says quote, “People come to Katahdin Woods and Waters to recreate in the north woods, experience an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, view and learn about the land through a Wabanaki worldview, and end up supporting the US and local economies along the way.”
