DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- At a press conference Tuesday morning, the family of Christian Black announced it had reached a $7 million settlement with Montgomery County over the jail's alleged role in Black's death.
The 25-year-old died at the hospital in late March, two days after he passed out while in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
The coroner ruled his death a homicide.
The Montgomery County Commission announced the $7 million dollar settlement Tuesday morning.
"Our hearts go out to the Christian black family and to everyone that was affected by this,” said the commission. “And this money will never replace this loss.”
Michael Wright, the family's attorney, spoke on their behalf saying that the agreement will hold the jail financially responsible for Black's death.
