Gov. Maura Healey has tasked the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to fully incorporate the events of Sept. 11 into Massachusetts' school curriculum .

DESE Commissioner Pedro Martinez made it clear at Tuesday's board meeting that the events of 9/11 are already discussed in schools as part of the social science curriculum.

"It is an expectation that it is taught across all schools," he said, telling the board they would look at additional resources for 9/11 education.

"We are always looking for high quality materials to recommend to our teachers so we will continue to do that," Martinez said.
