In a letter sent to parents across Oklahoma, outgoing State Superintendent Ryan Walters extends his farewells to the state as he assumes a new role as CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance, an anti-union nonprofit.
On Sept. 25, Walters formally announced his intention to resign from his position on national television. Walters is expected to begin his new position on Oct. 1.
In the letter sent on Tuesday, Walters says the Oklahoma State Department of Education has made "historic education reforms," with the outgoing superintendent thanking parents for trusting him to "fight for your children."
