LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A new park opened in the Russell neighborhood on Tuesday.

City leaders joined community members to celebrate the opening of New Walnut Street Park.

The nearly 4-acre park includes west Louisville's first pickleball courts, a turf field for youth sports, a spray ground, and a playground.

Leaders say the park is a key piece of the city's effort to revitalize spaces west of 9th Street.

"Residents and visitors will now have a very safe and incredibly welcoming place to play tennis, to play pickleball, to go for a walk, to bring their children to this awesome playground behind us, and the spray ground. And that is just the beginning. There is truly something for everyone at the new Walnut Street Park," Mayor Craig Greenberg said.
