A volunteer program addressing food insecurity in local schools for the past decade has a new name, and a new official home.
The Weekender Program for Students, formerly the Weekender Program for Kids , formally relocated under the umbrella of Brockville’s Loaves and Fishes on Tuesday, after a decade under the auspices of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

“I can’t think of a better fit,” Laura Roobol, founder and co-ordinator of the Weekender Program, said Tuesday morning after the documents were signed.
Roobol and her fellow volunteers are relieved to know the program can now carry on, and continue issuing charitable receipts through Loaves and Fishes, thanks to the facilitation of United Way Leeds and Grenville executive director Hailie Jack.
