DES MOINES, Iowa — Students walked out of class today in support of Ian Roberts.

Students from Hoover High School and several other campuses participated in the protest, marching to Gov. Kim Reynolds' mansion. They expressed concerns about how ICE enforcement efforts have impacted their families.

Student organizers emphasized the need for the district to ensure all students feel safe at schools.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that Roberts faces existing weapon possession charges in addition to allegedly being in the country illegally. However, DHS has clarified that ICE agents do not conduct enforcement actions at schools.
