Those looking to do some late-season camping will have to do so without open fires in some Quebec forests.

The Ministry of Public Security announced Tuesday that, beginning at 8 a.m. on Oct. 1, open fires will be prohibited in several forested areas around the province.

The announcement was made alongside the Forest Fire Protection Society (SOPFEU), as conditions in some areas are the reason for the open fire ban, and officials are trying to limit the risk of forest fires.

Currently, in Quebec, there are seven wildfires burning. Since the start of the protection season, 372 forest fires have impacted 1052.9 hectares.

Areas that will prohibit open fires include: Laurentians: Deux-Montagnes, Thérèse-De Blainville, Mirabel. Lanaudière: Joliette, and Montérégie: Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
