LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - In Lake Charles, banks are trying to catch fake bills before they circulate further. However, when those fakes appear in deposits, it is businesses that lose out.
Inside J.D. Bank, tellers say counterfeit money is more common than many people realize.
Joshua Bruns, a security officer and AVP at J.D. Bank, shares the process the banks follow when presented with counterfeit bills.
“True counterfeit currency, we submit those bills to the Secret Service for analysis and documentation. Unfortunately, it results in a loss to the customer. That money cannot be recovered unless it comes back for some reason that it was legitimate, which happens sometimes, but it’s a very rare occurrence,” Bruns said.
