MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A man was shot and killed by a member of the Surry County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday as law enforcement was carrying out a drug trafficking investigation in Mount Airy.
According to the Surry County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Mount Airy Police officers were conducting a drug trafficking investigation around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving information that an "unknown male subject would be in possession of trafficking amounts of narcotics and a firearm."
Eventually, the Sheriff's Office said a deputy noticed a vehicle associated with the unknown male traveling on West Pine Street near Toast Road in Mount Airy. As deputies attempted to block the car from leaving, the Sheriff's Office said the driver of the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to run the deputies
