SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A lawsuit has been filed in response to Spartanburg City Council voting to dismantle the clock tower in Morgan Square.

Kimberly Branch and a group called “Support the Spartanburg Clock Tower” filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, requesting an injunction.

In the lawsuit, Branch and Support the Spartanburg Clock Tower said they are seeking an order from the court prohibiting city council from removing the clock tower.

The lawsuit says Spartanburg City Council does not have the “power to remove, damage, destroy, relocate, deconstruct, or otherwise diminish a historically protected monument or memorial.”

According to the lawsuit, city council “elected to ignore public comment and concern as well as the established protections under the Heritage Act.”
