Under the guise of a mystery author's visit to the school, kindergarten through fifth grade students and staff members at Myersville Elementary School on Tuesday filed into the white-and-blue-decorated cafeteria.

After students shared some whispers of confusion, Myersville Elementary Principal Dana Austin surprised her students and staff: They were being honored as the only 2025 Maryland Blue Ribbon School from Frederick County Public Schools.
