BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Neighbors in Blount County are concerned after first responders say the area could lose ambulance service by the end of the year.
Clay Jones with the Blount County Fire Emergency Medical Agency (EMA) Association says that even though this is an end of the year decision, the time to plan is now.
Jones says patient transportation and emergency medical response could be compromised come Dec. 31, 2025. That’s if the Blount County Commission does not reinstate a two- mill property tax that would continue ambulance service.
Jones says the two-mill means about $50 per household a year.
Jones says he hopes neighbors will support the tax, allowing them to help pay to keep ambulance service in the area.
