WILKES-BARRE — Korean War Veteran and lifelong Wilkes-Barre resident Donald Williams, 92, was honored for his military service on Tuesday by Mayor George Brown at City Hall.

Williams, a Purple Heart and Silver Star recipient, was given the key to the city and was surrounded by dozens of family members during the ceremony, which was held inside city council chambers.

Brown also read from a proclamation designating Sept. 30, 2025, as Donald Richard Williams Day, “in recognition of his heroism and commitment to his fellow soldiers during the Korean War and his lifelong dedication to his family, community and country.”

“It’s hard to believe it’s 70 years ago,” Williams said, when asked how it felt to be honored for his service all these years later.
