The historic Imperial Pub, located near Sankofa Square in Toronto, is set to close on Nov. 15 after more than eight decades of business in the downtown core.

The popular bar originally opened during World War II in 1944 under Jack Newman and is known to locals for its pool table, cheap drinks and warm atmosphere.

Scott Baird who was at the pub Tuesday, says he has fond memories of gathering with classmates there when he was in university.

"It makes me really, really sad," he said. "Even after graduating, I'd come here a lot to meet up with friends in the city. It's really sad to see an old institution leave Toronto."

Daniel Zombori says he has also been visiting the pub since he was a student. He recalls drinking a beer in between study sessions.

"I'm devastated," he told CBC Toronto.
