MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – A series of weapons incidents at Berkeley Middle School has sparked growing concern among parents, some of whom are now calling for clear backpack policies and permanent metal detectors.
One of those parents is Kristina Moore Lee, who said the repeated alerts from the school left her questioning her son’s safety each day.
“It was getting to the point where every voicemail made me wonder if it was the last hug goodbye,” she said.
Lee started a petition for a clear backpack policy but said parents quickly pushed for even more.
“Almost every comment was saying we need metal detectors. Clear backpacks are a start, but they’re not enough,” she said.
