PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A Central Illinois congressman said avoiding a shutdown is now in the Senate’s hands.

Republican U.S. Representative Darin LaHood (R-IL) said they need 60 overall votes to pass a spending package. He said 53 republicans want to support it, but they still require seven or eight democrats to join them.

LaHood voted two weeks ago to keep the government open through Nov. 20 with this same package. He argued the same spending bill was passed 13 times under the Biden administration and accused Democrats of stalling.
