MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia College & State University announced Friday to campus staff and student, it has placed two fraternities on interim suspension following reports of hazing and alcohol policy violations, the school confirmed.
The university announced Friday that Kappa Sigma and Kappa Alpha Order are barred from all chapter activities while officials investigate. At this time, no student injuries have been reported. According to a university official, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also involved in reviewing the case.
Hazing in Georgia is a criminal offense under the Max Gruver Act, which became law in 2021. The legislation defines hazing as forcing or pressuring someone into activities that endanger their physical safety, even if a student consents.
