Boater in critical condition after falling overboard in Newburyport

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. —

A man is in critical condition after falling overboard in Newburyport waters Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Newburyport Police say they received a 911 call around 3:45 p.m. that a man in need of medical attention fell from a vessel about 5 miles offshore.

People on the boat were performing CPR on the man when first responders arrived.

Newburyport first responders took over and brought the man to a private dock on Plum Island Point, where he was then transported to a local hospital.

Police say the man remains in serious condition at this time.

No further updates were immediately available.

Newburyport Police and Fire were assisted by the Newbury Fire Department, Atlantic Ambulance, Amesbury Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
