BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Two high-profile immigration cases with a Vermont connection were heard by the second court of appeals on Tuesday.

Rumeysa Öztürk was taken into custody outside her Massachusetts apartment in March after she wrote a pro-Palestinian op-ed in a student newspaper that the government called support for Hamas.

Court paperwork outlines how she was then moved to New Hampshire, then Vermont, and finally flown from the Burlington airport to an ICE detention center in Louisiana. The government’s appeal of an order that would have transferred her from Louisiana to Vermont, had she not been released on bail, was heard today.
