KIRKWOOD, Mo. - An elderly driver, confused by construction around the Kirkwood Train Station, drove onto the tracks thinking it was a road, according to police.

The driver was able to safely escape his vehicle, but the cargo train struck the car as police were notifying railroad officials.

Some witnesses heard the crash and were relieved to hear the driver escaped without any injuries.

In 2022, FOX 2 reported on the small blue signs at every railroad crossing.

Anyone spotting a vehicle stuck on train tracks is encouraged to call the number on that sign. Each crossing has an identifying number that allows railroad companies to know the location of that particular crossing.
