A man who threatened a WA Police acting inspector over his involvement in the state's firearm reforms has avoided a prison sentence while being ordered to do community work and undergo counselling.
Mitchell John Hogan called Acting Inspector Ken Walker's mobile phone and said "we're coming for you Ken" three times.
He appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday for sentencing after being found guilty in August .
"You were frustrated with recent gun licensing reforms," Magistrate Michelle Harries told Hogan, saying it was a serious offence.
" This type of cowardly behaviour is all too common in our society. "
Sweeping changes to WA's firearm laws are being introduced into parliament to make them what the government describes as the toughest in the nation.
