ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Getting to a doctor is not always easy in rural parts of South Carolina.

People in Orangeburg County can connect with a provider simply by visiting the library.

That's right. The library.

The Orangeburg County Library is now home to a new telehealth cart, its a partnership between Palmetto Care Connections, MUSC Health, the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance, and the library are bringing health care closer to the community.

“Now patients can come from the community to the library, work directly with the staff, and schedule a virtual visit,” said Ragan Richardson, manager with the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance.

Hospital leaders said the technology could help reduce barriers to care.
