KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — There is a new Safe Haven Baby Box in Knox County, bringing the total to three in the county and 24 in the state.
This one is at the Karns Fire Department on Campbell Station Road. State Rep. Jason Zachary was at the dedication ceremony on Tuesday afternoon and gave thanks to the firefighters.
A baby box was opened in August in Kingsport, giving parents in crisis a safe option to surrender a baby. The box, located at a fire station at 3017 S. John B. Dennis Highway, opened Aug. 29.
There are 369 Safe Haven Baby Box locations in the country, according to Safe Haven Baby Boxes representatives. So far in the state, more than 40 babies have been surrendered.
