CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have a long-standing rivalry, and Tuesday night they faced off in the first game of the American League Wild Card Series. The Red Sox took game one in New York.
For the sixth time in postseason history, the Yankees and Red Sox squared off in the wild-card series, a best-of-three at Yankee Stadium. "It's going to be a good game. Low scoring and hope the Sox pull it out," said Rick Renkie of Chicopee.
And they sure did. The final score was Red Sox 3, Yankees 1.
MGM Springfield was busy all day as visitors put serious cash on the outcome of this game or specific plays.
"You can definitely feel the vibe, the competition. We have Yankees fans, we have Red Sox fans," said MGM Springfield Director of Public Affairs, Beth Ward.
